Today I woke up three different times with an odd three part dream between each. The dreams were combative and seem to be an outcome of poor digestion. When my dreams are odd so is my digestion. I finally became more lucid around 4pm. Steven created CAT since noon. He was in a happy mood even though his wrist was not in the mood to balance.

The acrobalance class that I thought might not be my thing turned out to be really fun. It was similar to Pilobolus, my favorite. We learned all kinds of cool balancing tricks. Each trick has the "base", the person on the floor using abs to be strong for the "flyer". My favorite trick was a backwards full circle in slow motion. First the flyer keeps body straight and leans into the feet of the base person while they bring their knees in before lifting. The job of the flyer is to keep the body in a straight line on the ground to increase the chance of being straight in the air. Once airborne, the flyer lenghthens the body even more and then releases hands as in the photo below.

Then the flyer is tilted by the base person via their feet to a vertical headstand position with the base person holding their shoulders. The flyer holds the base persons ankles with straight arms while lenghtening high into headstand. Once accomplished, the flyer can straddle their legs and let the base person hold them up by their hips as below.

Once secure the flyer can release hands. The base person makes sure their legs are straight to maintain this position. The flyer can then reach for their own ankles and pull their legs together in a strong ab supported pike position. The base person can hold the flyer in pike by their shoulders and release their feet from their hips. After success, the flyer can tip forward and step to standing. So cool!

During the warmup which is mostly ab work and other strengthening exercises, I was concerned about "how worth it" the class may be in accord to the effort. I was really impressed in the end all the cool things we could do.

The simple but cool front facing flying angel is a great place to start. The base person does as above and pulls knees in while flyer leans in straight and then lifts. Hands can be released by flyer once airborne and balanced.

We also did some fun handstands while the base person sits and makes sure you don't go too far forward.

So exciting! I love it! I hope to spend my thirties being gymnastic and making friends who love this stuff too!

Steven found us great Indian in the Soho area after class. I enjoyed a yummy Vegetable Biriyani and we both had Saag.
